Sibley: A passion for tyranny versus the defence of liberal democracy

 

Tyranny Twenty-five years ago, it was widely thought the collapse of Soviet communism had left liberal democracy taking all the bows on the world’s stage. All the other poor ideologies were consigned to history’s trash bin. Obviously, it didn’t turn out that way. Brussels, Paris, Charlie Hebdo, the Syrian civil war: They suggest history is back with a vengeance.
